If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you may have heard that I was excited to attend Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau's 80th birthday brunch (benefiting The Museum of Lifestyle and Fashion History) this weekend. We had a colorful table of ladies including fellow bloggers Jennifer from Southern Living: Preppy Style and Amy from Forever 29. It was somewhat of a blogger convention (!!!)... and we also enjoyed meeting Bethany from Maryland Pink and Green, Wendy from Life is Better with a Twist of Lime, Ashley of Ashley Brooke Designs, & Kiehl James Patrick!

Thought I'd share some other photos from our trip last weekend (other than the bedbug pics!).

Little P and I told Hubs that we must stop by the new Laduree on Madison Avenue. They had a Halloween-themed window display and yes, those orange macarons were delicious. I found a new favorite, though, blackcurrant violet--amazing!

When we were in line waiting to enter Laduree Carl Bernstein happened to be walking by and he stopped to ask me what we were in line for. He got quite a chuckle out of the fact that dozens of people were waiting outside just to purchase some macarons. Obviously he's never had a Laduree macaron.

Little P and I outside the Gershwin theater before seeing Wicked. All four of us really enjoyed it!

After the performance we walked over to Magnolia Bakery where picked up these treats and took them over to Rockefeller Center to watch the ice skaters.

{bedbugs in New York City?....eeeeek!}

We just returned from a quick jaunt to New York City. We had a fabulous time visiting with friends, taking little Petunia to see Wicked on Broadway, eating some amazing food..... until I woke up after the first night with bites all over my right arm! Gross......I know! Do not be fooled into thinking that the bedbug epidemic in New York City is a thing of the past. I have now found several online reports filed this year (some as recently as earlier this month) which took place at our hotel, the Millenium Hilton on Church Street. To be honest I can't find a NYC hotel that doesn't have any bedbug reports! It didn't occur to me until we were already on our way home that the bites popping up all over my arm could be from bedbugs. They did not actually become horribly itchy until about 24 hours later so I didn't speak to anyone at the hotel while we were there. These are definitely not mosquito bites--I know what those look like. These are different and no prescription or cortisone cream will stop the itching. I have tried to contact a Millenium Hilton hotel manager by phone and no one will speak to me. I even left a voicemail for the manager prefaced with "Hello, I am not trying to obtain a refund. I simply wish to speak with a manager so that no one else gets bitten..." and so far no one from the hotel has returned my call.
To be clear--at the time I did not think to search for nor did I happen to see any actual bedbugs in our room, but I just cannot figure out what else this could be. I have never had an experience like this before in all of my travels. During our return I started to worry that we might bring bedbugs home with us, so I immediately washed all of our clothing in hot water and then threw away some non-washables AND my suitcase which had been on the floor next to my bed.

I would be very hesitant to visit NYC ever again after this! I would surely have a nervous breakdown if my home became infested with bedbugs.

Blue has been my favorite color for a long time. Blue and white is a classic combination for home decor which never seems to go out of style. Below I'm sharing with you a local model home that was decorated entirely in blue and white (and sand beige). At the beginning of September we took a family vacation to Israel and Paris. We are slowly getting back into our routine with school and work, so I am finally able to post a few pics!

Israel is not as strange and foreign as you might think. This photo of a street in Tel Aviv below could just as well have been taken here in South Florida!

In Tel Aviv there is quite a contrast between old and new as seen in the photo below of my hotel and the building across the street. I'll let you guess which one was my hotel...

But then every once in a while you get a reminder that you are, in fact, in Israel!!!

We toured Jerusalem and saw many of the historical religious sites. Below we were able to touch the Unction stone (the stone on which Jesus' body was prepared for burial) which is inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

We also attended the wedding of my husband's niece while in Israel. The ceremony and reception were held in a beautiful cave-like rock formation on a kibbutz. There was also a sit-down dinner before the ceremony and reception on a lovely grassy area adjacent to the rock. I love the fleur de lis bottle.

The people of New Orleans are obsessed with the fleur de lis. It is not just the symbol of The Saints. It is the symbol of the city itself, and you will see fleur de lis everywhere if you visit NOLA.

The base notes are cinnamon and sandalwood while the top notes are tuberose, violet leaf, cassis and vanilla. I am curious to try it, but this Bond no. 9 scent is only sold at the Saks Fifth Avenue in The Shops of Canal Place in New Orleans.

I am finally getting around to posting a few pics from our vacation to California in July. It was an all-around perfect vacation! The weather was gorgeous with temperatures in the 60's and 70's which was a welcome change for us. This was Lil P's first trip to California so of course we spent some time in Hollywood and Beverly Hills just having fun and taking in the sights!

We found our favorite old movie stars' hand and foot prints on Hollywood Boulevard. They were so much more interesting to look at than the stars on the walk of fame.

Here I am posing with Johnny Depp at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. The figures are incredibly realistic all the way down to exact height and even razor stubble on his chin here. I have to say that the most stunning figure was Angelina Jolie. I didn't take a photo of her wax figure because I still don't like her--haha!

We took one of those tours of Hollywood which included stopping and ogling lots of Celebrity homes...hee hee. It was actually lots of fun! I think this was Madonna's house:

I had to stop at the original Shabby Chic in Santa Monica.

We had an outdoor wedding to attend in Malibu which was quite lovely and scenic.

I just ordered this trench for an upcoming trip to France and Israel. I know that I will freeze in Paris and am wondering if this will even keep me warm enough. (My body has acclimated to subtropical temperatures and anything below 70 degrees is cold to me.)
But it is just so perfect for Paris, n'est ce pas?! I couldn't resist!

Do you have any good Paris hotel or restaurant recommendations? I'd like to try some new places this time!

Wow, I have a lot of catching up to do!
I took the summer off of work to spend more time with Little Petunia and the new puppy. We went on our annual beach vacation with my family and had a terrific time. We were so happy to see that no oil had washed up onto this particular area of the Gulf. The Santa Rosa Beach and Dune Allen Beach areas were as pretty as ever with just the usual June seaweed in the water.

The beach was beautiful.

Two of my sisters walking on the beach with Lil P -- it's so nice to be able to take a walk in the evening with no mosquitoes!

Getting covered in sand is fun!

Hubby and I took a long drive down 30A and had a lunch date at George's in Alys Beach. The food there was amazing! I think this is my new favorite beach vacay restaurant.

Our Summer vacation is coming up. We plan it a year in advance and it is so nice to spend an entire week at a little beach near the Destin area with my family from New Orleans. Over the past couple of weeks I am afraid that Phoebe has become obsessed, obsessed I tell you, with the reality tv show The Hills!

It all started recently when MTV played every episode back to back starting from season 1. Phoebe was shocked to see how Heidi has changed--she was so young and sweet in the first season. Now she is making me show her every episode starting from Season 1 Episode 1 which she views at mtv.com .

Phoebe was amazed at the change in Heidi in later seasons--but thinks that she did look pretty.
Well, ...until season 6. Phoebe thinks she should have stopped while she was still ahead.

But, anywhoo....let's discuss Heidi's handbag collection! These are just a few of the Hermes that she has been spotted carrying! I love her choice of size--wonder if the Birkins are the 28 or the 32 cm?

Right now I am loving L'Oreal's Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing gel cleanser which I alternate with my Purpose gel cleanser--(best cleanser ever). I like my daily facial cleanser to be mild (not harsh)--it keeps the wrinkles at bay. ;)
Also, you can see my favorite Sweet Pea scented Suave gel body wash--no soap allowed in my house (hate soap scum)!
Then there is the Bed Head shampoo and conditioner (no comments from the peanut gallery about the name haha!). Right now I am alternating these with my Matrix Biolage shampoo and conditioner. An extremely convenient feature of these huge Bed Head bottles is the pump dispensers. Love that because it is so easy in the shower!

My Mom sent us a King Cake from New Orleans on Friday. The traditional favorite in our family is a King Cake from Randazzo's. But, I took a chance and tried something new--and was pleasantly surprised! This particular bakery, Gambino's, has always been a favorite of mine for baked treats when I am in town (their Blackout Cake is insane) & now their King Cake has become my new favorite! The reason this King Cake is soooo good is because they send it to you only partially finished!
The King Cake arrives in a box at your door like this:

When you first see it as it looks below--it looks naked!! But this is a good thing for a couple of reasons. Most King Cakes arrive already decorated in a bag which has bounced around in the box mushing the icing and making the cake a little gooey. Gambino's arrives fresh and ready for you to put just the right amount (for me--a very very thin layer) of white icing on before you get decorative with the purple, green, and gold sugars. My daughter loved helping to sprinkle on the sugars and it was fun for her to get to decorate her own King Cake.

I only spread just enough of a thin layer of white icing so that the sugar will have something to stick to. I actually threw away about 75% of the icing provided. And voila--the finished product!

If you missed out on the King Cake goodness during this Mardi Gras season, I believe that Randazzo's, Haydel's, and Gambino's--all local favorites--now ship them out year-round through their websites. (They may take a hiatus during the Summer months due to the heat.)

.....and are ready for a puppy! It's been two years since our beloved Bichon, Chloe, passed away at the age of 15.

We have fallen in love with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed! They are so sweet-tempered, cute, and don't get too big. We think it would be the perfect addition to our family. Finding a puppy from a reputable breeder is a much more daunting task that we were prepared for! There are so many slick websites out there with puppy brokers--it breaks my heart! They usually feature irresistible photos like this one to lure you in (yep--my daughter was very upset when she found out that we wouldn't have Adriana shipped to us from South Dakota (even though the broker was more than willing to ship her that far!) She was on a Florida Cavalier website! Sneaky if you ask me!:

We went to the ckcsc.org website and learned a lot of useful information and now we are seriously hoping to find our puppy by the Summer.

If anyone can recommend any good breeders in the South, any tips, suggestions--I would appreciate it! We are having a hard time finding much out there. Cavaliers are prone to heart problems and luxated patella, so we really want one from a trustworthy breeder.

{Christmas in New Orleans}

We had a wonderful visit to New Orleans, and spent the entire week visiting with family and friends. We were freezing cold the entire time we were there, but then again anything below 70 degrees is freezing to us!

I don't know if New Orleans is the only city where people are slightly obsessed with cemeteries. We made our usual visit, this time visiting the cemetery where my Dad's Mother & Father are buried along with many of their relatives. Then we visited Hope Mausoleum where my Mom's Mother & Father are. Then, and this is where it might sound a little creepy, we visited the Mausoleum where my Mom and Dad have reserved their spot. Then...we went to lunch. ;)

There was a lot of beautiful mulitcolored foliage which we don't get to see much in Florida.

I love all of my TB flats, and my newest pair are no exception! Introducing the TB Lissie in Anthracite crackled leather--I like them because they are somewhat neutral but have that extra oomph of sparkle. I will wear them throughout the holidays and beyond! They are different from TB Revas in that the sole is made of leather instead of rubber, the upper is a very pretty crackled leather, and the logo medallion on the toe is encrusted with crystals.

Before I found the Reva I had the hardest time finding comfortable flats that were stylish as well. Thank goodness for them. The gathered elastic banding behind the heel may seem like it would be uncomfortable but it is quite the opposite. Flats look especially cute with the cropped pants and skinny jeans that are everywhere these days, so do give them a try if you don't already have a pair (or ten).

And if you haven't been following me on Twitter, then [you're missing a lot!] and you probably missed seeing the cutest pair of new Revas below which were a surprise birthday gift to me from my wonderful Atlanta meet-up blogger/twitter friends that I blogged about in THIS post! I think Demi looks amazing on the new cover of W magazine. At least that is what I thought until I found out that there is a huge controversy over whether she was photoshopped, and some are questioning whether it is even Demi's body at all. Why in the world do magazines do this to women? It makes me so mad.

Here is the model next to Demi's cover. Their bodies do look eeerily similar, but I am sure that Demi's body is in pretty awesome shape as well.

I think Demi is beautiful and it is a shame that she can't grace the cover as is without being altered. There is now even a term for it--they are saying she was Ralph-Lauren'd! Ugh!!

Lots of companies make their fortunes by keeping women afraid to look old. Imagine just for a minute...if W regularly put women on the cover who had a few wrinkles (or a zit or two). Haha! Their many cosmetics company sponsors would NOT be very happy that they were seemingly making it seem okay---or worse even---stylish--- to have these flaws. Who would continue to buy their $300 creams and serums if this happened?

I think it's a conspiracy!

The anti-wrinkle cream--it's a multi-million dollar industry in this country & the world over.

People ask me what skin care I use for my face, and I have tried many different kinds. My Twitter friends will remember when I first tried Creme de la Mer a month or so ago. It smelled so awful to me to the point that I wasn't sure I would be able to fall asleep. No problem there, because 15 minutes later my entire face and neck started itching so badly that I had to run to the bathroom and wash it off of my skin! I do love to try a new product, but it seems that I always go back to my good old standbys because I have yet to find a single product that does what it claims to do. Then again, maybe I'd look a lot worse if I weren't using them--haha.

I subscribe to Consumer Reports and found this article to be just what I've always wondered:

Consumer Reports’ (CR) first test of wrinkle creams finds that on average these products made little difference in the skin’s appearance and there’s no correlation between price and effectiveness. The luxury-priced skin-care offerings didn’t work any better than the drugstore brands in CR’sindependent, unbiased tests. Further, CR’s tests found no relationship between the types of active ingredients in the products and their overall performance.

Olay Regenerist, which is available in drugstores, was the top performer by a small margin. One of the less-costly products tested, Olay Regenerist, sells for about $19 apiece for the “enhancing lotion,” “perfecting cream,” and “regenerating serum” combination recommended by the company. Lancome Paris Renergie, $176, performed nearly as well. The most-costly product tested, La Prairie Cellular ($335 for an ounce of day cream and 1.7 ounces of night cream), was among the least effective. The wrinkle creams CR tested ranged in price from $38 to $335.

In CR’s tests, the top-rated products did smooth out some fine lines and wrinkles after 12 weeks. But even the best performers reduced the average depth of wrinkles by less than 10 percent, a magnitude of change that was barely visible to the naked eye.

That last line really gets me. BARELY VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. So, in other words we are wasting our money?!

I think maybe some of you thought I was trying to trick you, but I wasn't! While the difference between the mascaras was subtle to the eye, I definitely have a favorite. The YSL was by far superior in terms of texture, thickening, ease of application, and to me it almost looked like I had more lashes.

The YSL is the mascara in the first photo on top. I am officially addicted!

Which is the $6 Maybelline Volum Express Mascara and which is the $30 YSL Singulier Mascara?? Both have one coat only.

ease of application: The YSL was much smoother. It just glides on, while the Maybelline catches and clumps and requires more strokes to smooth out the clumps.
Neither mascara flaked at all which was impressive.
ease of removal: Both mascaras remove easily with makeup remover.

Today a new Tory Burch boutique opened at my mall, so after the morning's surgery I went to check out all of the new things and found quite a few pretties.

So, everyone knows that Billy and Katie are divorcing because she was cheating on him. Have you seen that old video tour of Katie Lee Joel and their NYC townhouse HERE ? I love the house, the closet is pretty nice, but I don't know....something seems a little off about her....like she had a glass of wine or two before the camera crew arrived or something. Her manner when speaking of her husband is disturbing to me (seems a little like foreshadowing). She was only married to him for five years. Really, I don't think she should get any of his money, do you? Who would have bought Katie Lee's cookbook before 2004?

Megan's recent blog post reminded me of a funny story...

Lil Petunia had a friend, Gabby, over for a slumber party this past weekend. Gabby is one year older than Lil P, but Lil P likes to, ....umm, exercise her command of the "knowledge is power" theory. Earlier in the evening she "taught" Gabby how to play the piano. Then, at bedtime I happened to be passing by the guestroom (their favorite sleeping spot) on the way to the laundry room. I don't know if I should be mortified or not. Thankfully, Gabby's Mom is a good friend of mine so I can easily explain...well, sort of.

I overheard Lil Petunia telling Gabby these few words, but I giggled all the way back to my bedroom:

Lil P: "Tweeting."

Lil P: "Tweeting...It's NOT something you do with your body."

Lil P: "Have you ever even HEARD of Twitter???" asked quite indignantly.

I have not been cooking much. (I'm not going to lie about this one.) But I still love reading all of your recipes. One day I'm going to cook all kinds of fabulous dishes....one day.

I have fallen for J Brand! I was intent on finding some skinny jeans for Fall and Winter, and after trying on about 40 pairs between Saks, Bloomies, Nordstrom, & J Crew I finally found the right jeans for me. My advice is to try every style and even different washes within a style, because they ALL fit differently. The snug fit of J Brand took a little getting used to. One of the newer washes for J Brand is "INK". This wash is a little bit stiff and therefore harder to find that perfect fit. But, their "OYSTER" wash from earlier this year was very stretchy and comfy. I have come to love the J Brand plain back pockets--I think they give any outfit a more elegant sleek look.

Honestly, I am no Martha Stewart. If a recipe has too many ingredients I will probably not attempt it. In the Petunia household we have lots of baked chicken, turkey burgers, turkey meatballs, tacos, baked potatoes, salads and veggies. (I do go all out on Thanksgiving, though, when we have friends over and I get up at the crack of dawn and do ALL of the cooking.) I also make a mean pot roast. But, for the most part I appreciate simple recipes.

Here is what I made for dessert tonight. Lil Petunia likes to help--fun and easy. Stay tuned at the end of the post for my failed attempt at a VLOG!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries in minutes:
The secret is using chocolate chips. Nestle Toll House semi-sweet is my favorite, but tonight we were testing out Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips. (This Ghirardelli tasted a little bitter.)
Place chips in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute for small chips (like Nestle), and 1 minute 30 seconds for larger chips (like Ghirardelli).
Wash strawberries and dry completely.
Stir to smooth out chocolate and you are ready to dip. Have a foil or wax paper-lined tray ready.
Lil Petunia dipping:
Refrigerate for 15 minutes or so to harden chocolate. Leftovers will still be yummy tomorrow--store in fridge.

{swine flu}

Just thought I would post some information about the Swine Flu which seems to be everywhere these days!

Although the name 'swine flu' brings up a lot of extra fear and worry, it is important to note that swine flu is just an influenza A H1N1 virus.

That means that it is just another type of flu virus, just like that causes our typical seasonal flu symptoms. The big difference is that the current swine influenza A (H1N1) virus has components of pig and bird influenza viruses in it, so that humans don't have any immunity to it. That is what made it more likely that it would become a pandemic virus (have the ability to cause a global outbreak) because it could easily spread from person-to-person.

We do know that swine flu symptoms are just like seasonal flu symptoms.

Swine Flu Symptoms

According to the CDC, like seasonal flu, symptoms of swine flu infections can include:

fever, which is usually high, but unlike seasonal flu, is sometimes absent
cough
runny nose or stuffy nose
sore throat
body aches
headache
chills
fatigue or tiredness, which can be extreme
diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes, but more commonly seen than with seasonal flu

Signs of a more serious swine flu infection might include pneumonia and respiratory failure.

If your child has symptoms of swine flu, you should avoid other people and call your pediatrician who might do a rapid flu test to see if he has an influenza A infection. Further testing can then be done to see if it is a swine flu infection. (Samples can be sent to local and state health departments and the CDC for confirmation of swine flu, especially if a child is in the hospital.)

Serious Swine Flu Symptoms

More serious symptoms that would indicate that a child with swine flu would need urgent medical attention include:

Fast breathing or trouble breathing
Bluish or gray skin color
Not drinking enough fluids
Severe or persistent vomiting
Not waking up or not interacting
Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Swine Flu Symptoms vs. a Cold or Sinus Infection

It is important to keep in mind most children with a runny nose or cough will not have swine flu and will not have to see their pediatrician for swine flu testing.

What You Need To Know

Swine flu likely spreads by direct contact with respiratory secretions of someone that is sick with swine flu, like if they were coughing and sneezing close to you.
People with swine flu are likely contagious for one day before and up to seven days after they began to get sick with swine flu symptoms.
Droplets from a cough or sneeze can also contaminate surfaces, such as a doorknob, drinking glass, or kitchen counter, although these germs likely don't survive for more than a few hours.
Anti-flu medications, including Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir), are available toprevent and treat swine flu.

I am very happy about this mirror that I found today! A week or so ago it caught my eye as I was driving by and saw it in the shop's window display. I went back today and luckily it was still there--the only one they had. It is made of wood (...so tired of finding decorative pieces only to find out they are made of "resin") in Ecuador. Each sunray is nailed on by hand in the back where you can see the beautiful grain of the wood. I have wanted a sunburst mirror for quite some time.

Now,....where should I put it?

There were three items that I just had to see in person, so I went ahead and ordered them online. They are the Bubble Necklace in soft violet, the Duchess Stone Necklace in soft pumpkin, and the Duchess Stone Bracelet to match.
I was hoping the Bubble necklace would be produced in pink, and here it is. The necklace itself is more of a pink and the small beads hanging off of it are a light violet. It was hard to capture the color through a photograph (it turned a bit yellowish in my 2nd pic). The colors are more accurate in my first photo on the counter below. It is stunning and just too pretty.

The Duchess Stone necklace below did not thrill me as I had hoped. What do you think? I thought the brown would be prettier than the peachy/pink color that arrived in stores, but now I am not so sure.
I tried on the Majesty necklace in black in the store and was surprised that I liked it. Maybe even more so than the Duchess necklace! It looks huge, but was quite cute.

I have so many favorite songs. I rotate through them and make my own ringtones with the Garageband App on my MacBook. Anyway, I just made a new one and the song didn't translate well into a ringtone. It is annoying every time my phone rings even though I like the song. So, I would really like some suggestions for a new tune. What are your current or past favorite ringtones?? Some of my past ringtones are:

While reading through the rest of my September Town & Country magazine last night I came across MORE J Crew items! And a couple of the career women that were interviewed named J Crew as one of their favorite places to shop.
Here is the J Crew jeweled satin clutch ($198), which definitely holds it own next to those paillette and pearl Valentino pumps!:

A J Crew gold pearl and crystal necklace (bottom left) is featured alongside other pricey fakes in the September issue of Town and Country magazine. The pearl necklace on the top right even slightly resembles the J Crew pearl cluster necklace--which would make it a steal at $125 (now on sale for $95) versus $500.

I saw this cardigan the other day and tried it on but did not purchase. It is a large cheetah pattern and fits like a Jackie:

{Lilly Pulitzer Fall}

Here are a couple of the new Fall dresses that I tried on at Lilly Pulitzer yesterday:

The Alina dress. This is a cap sleeved shift style dress. The material is heavier and slightly stiff. I like the cute print. :

The Sabine Shirtdress Crinkle. It features a high empire waist with drawstrings that you cinch right under the bust. Love the material, soft and comfy. This is a size 2, so it was bunched up a bit, but the size 0 would have been too high on my chest. :

The Marcella Tunic dress. It is made of a thick stiff twill. This is the size 0, and it was a bit hard to pull over my head. :

I occasionally find the funniest things stored on my Mac computer. Lil Petunia knows how to take videos and does so frequently when she is feeling silly or to e-mail to her friends. I just found this one from our 9-hour drive home after vacation. My sister and I are chatting away in the front while Lil P was being very quiet--way too quiet--in the backseat! :)

Just stopping in to say Hi and let you all know that I'm still here. Sorry for the lack of exciting posts, but I have really been enjoying this summer with Lil Petunia and my hubby. We have been swimming, going to movies, going to dinner, hanging out with friends, and staying up late! Nothing terribly exciting has happened, and to prove that point--we spent an entire weekend installing towel rods! 6 bath towel rods and 5 hand towel rods later we can finally hang up our towels. We've only been in this house for a year... Initially we didn't want the builder-grade ceramic towel rods, so we told them not to install any rods in the entire house. I really wanted the rods to match my faucet hardware. But, because they had to be special ordered from someplace 45 minutes away (and because I'm a procrastinator) we just received them a couple of weeks ago and just now had the time to install them. Well, I measured and marked the walls, and hubby installed. He is very handy!

I did stop by to check out the J Crew new arrivals and only came home with these two items.

Okay, so I will be the first to admit that I have always thought that Twitter sounded like something I'd never do. I thought it sounded like a ridiculous thing to do. Then I made the mistake of going over to check it out 3 nights ago when I was bored and I got sucked in! It's not just blurting out what you're doing in a constant stream of narcissism (okay, well maybe it is)--it also allows for real-time conversations between you and your friends. Much better than waiting for a reply to an e-mail (which drives me crazy because I'm impatient). And on that topic--when you receive an e-mail, do you try to respond the same day? I know that I do. Same with RSVPing to an invitation. I try to do it ASAP because I worry that if I just look at it but don't respond right away, then I'll forget entirely OR later on I'll think that I responded already when I really didn't. I believe it is better to just do it promptly.

Also--with the Twitterfon application for the iPhone it is a constant stream of entertainment!

When I really like something I sometimes feel the need to purchase more than one--or the same item in 2 colors. Does anyone else do this?? I do this a lot with jeans.

The Sally pearlized patent ballet flats (I had to go up 1/2 size in these). Beautiful! But unfortunately these are going back because--although the leather seems soft enough--they rub my heels in the back and I know blisters would ensue. Looks like I might have to get the Tory Burch Revas in black/silver instead. I was hoping to be logo-free. Oh, well.

Well, what an exciting summer for us over in the Petunia household--meeting longtime blogger friends! On Friday I met our friend M. Lane whose blog The Epic I have been a faithful reader of for over a year! The Epic is a guide to living well with frequent stories about the many cities, hotels, and restaurants to which M. Lane travels. He is an excellent storyteller and writer, so if you've never ventured over to that side of blogland then you really should!

Here are a few pics from our day, although I cannot show you a picture of us because his identity is top secret! He is an extremely lovely person, though, and Lil Petunia and I thouroughly enjoyed meeting him at The Brazilian Court--a fabulous old hotel in Palm Beach--for Brunch.

Here are some more pics from my visit to J.Crew last weekend--

The corsage tee arrived in new colors. If it weren't such a pain to iron the little petals after every wash I'd be tempted to get this top in every color. It is so flattering that if you haven't bought at least one--you should!!

Love this bright aqua color--just wondering why it wasn't released before now. It is very bright IRL, as is the new bright pink color (Flamingo??), which makes me think Spring/Summer.

I liked the Dark Charcoal color also, although the sheerness of the fabric is more noticeable in this color. Wondering if this would match the Michelle Merino Cardigan in the Dark Charcoal color?

We bake cookies A LOT over here in the Petunia household. There's nothing like a couple of warm cookies and a glass of cold milk after dinner! I even place Lil P's cup of milk in the freezer while the cookies are baking so it gets icy and a teensy bit frozen--she loves this. Tonight it will be Oatmeal Chocolate Chip (my personal favorite).

I wanted to capture the moment and had to go to the other room to get my camera, so I told Lil Petunia "Don't eat the dough while I'm gone!" Guess what she was doing when I returned...

Jenna Lyons, creative director of J Crew, appears in the August issue of Town & Country wearing the feather skirt. My favorite part of her whole outfit is the shoes--which are not even J Crew. (They are Lanvin.) I don't get this skirt at all. It could possibly be cute if it were black, but I don't like the combination of the brown colors of the feathers--from afar it looks like a furry animal. Hmmm....oh, well. I do love the black tights and the bracelets!

For those who liked the Ankle Stretch Toothpick Jeans in my last post, they arrived in the store in Black, style # 18188, as seen below. Same fit as the Twilight jeans, but the denim is a little bit different. As I was checking out, two of the salesgirls complimented my jeans and asked if I bought them at JC. I was wearing the Twilight jeans again--LOVE those jeans!

Hubby, Lil Petunia and I went out to dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants tonight. These are the J Crew Toothpick Ankle Jeans in Twilight wash. I am loving these jeans because they are so stretchy and comfy. I had worn them for a couple of hours at this point, so they are already stretched out in this photo. When they first arrive they are quite snug! They fit true to size in my opinion. This black top needed something--it always looked too bare up top and too bottom-heavy on me. It needed something to balance the ruffled ribbons on the bottom, and I think the Libretto necklace was the perfect piece for the job. I actually ended up wearing it tied about two inches higher, so it didn't fall quite that low on the blouse.

Depeche Mode - "Wrong"
I would love to see Depeche Mode in concert in September. Anybody want to go with me? Heehee--not sure if hubby would go or not. Well, if he saw this video he probably wouldn't want to go. He would say "What kind of music is that??!"

((Let me just say that if you are faint of heart do NOT watch this video--it is a little disturbing.))

If you do watch it, ...don't come running to me when you have nightmares! The first time I saw it a few months ago I think I turned it off before it finished. I eventually watched it again and thought......Oh, I get it now. Reminds me of an episode of Nip/Tuck--which I watched for the first couple of seasons before it became too weird.

Oh, well, shocking video or not, I would still LOVE to see them in concert, but of course by the time I checked there were only nosebleed section seats available. :(

....Tickled Pink and Green!

Our lovely blogger friend is vacationing in Palm Beach with her family this week. So, today Lil Petunia and I picked up TP&G and her BigGirl at The Breakers Resort and took them on a little driving tour of Palm Beach. Then the four of us lunched at the old Chuck and Harold's restaurant on Royal Poinciana Way. (It has a new name now, but it will always be "Chuck and Harold's" to me.) We had so much fun meeting them and talking about everything from politics to blogging to shopping! She is just as pretty AND funny in real life as she is on her blog. BigGirl is so beautiful and poised, and we were also able to meet BabyGirl (a doll!) and the Hubby. It was truly a fun day!

The beach was beautiful! We spent the entire vacation at the beach with occasional visits to the pool. My entire family from New Orleans convenes to spend this time together each summer. I put SPF 70 on our faces and sprayed SPF 50 on our bodies every morning! I'm still pretty pale but Lil Petunia got quite the savage tan. This happens every year--it doesn't matter that I reapply her sunscreen several times each day--she just naturally tans.

Oh! Lil Petunia learned how to surf! Many of the grandchildren took surfing lessons and had quite a fun time! Here she is with her instructor who is a professional surfer:

The Petunia family has been on vacation, but we're winding down the fun and getting ready to get back to reality! Well, actually Mr Petunia has already left (work, work, work, yes it is hard for him to relax for more than a few days....he gets anxious to get back to his patients!). The girls will be home soon and my sister L is coming home with us for a few days!
